How I Selected the Best Marketing Asset Management Software

Before I dive into the different tools, let’s first look at the real problems marketers like you and I are facing every day.

In a recent survey, it was found that the number one marketing challenge is “Having enough time and resources to focus on marketing” (63.9% of respondents answered “yes”).

Small businesses face a good number of challenges. In 2021, having enough time and resources to focus on marketing was the biggest challenge.

With the right marketing asset management platform, you can have your resources organized efficiently. This means you can promptly locate what you need, giving you more time‌—‌and better access to resources‌—‌to improve your marketing.

Knowing this, I analyzed the most intuitive platforms that help marketers and CMOs manage their marketing assets. I took into consideration the most important factors such as usability, integrations, price, and more to narrow down the list to a top 12—‌recommending different software based on specific needs.

Selection criteria

Here's a short summary of the selection criteria I used to develop my list of the best marketing asset management software for this article:

I analyzed each platform’s pricing structure and gathered information on their different plans. I gave preference to tools with pricing models that show what features you get at each price point. A good deal of the software listed have custom pricing, but generally, $10/month for basic features or a basic plan is around what I was looking for, while more expensive software with advanced features can cost $100+ per month. Software that has a free trial or free version were also given preference.

Since most marketers are using half a dozen different marketing tools, it’s important that a newly-introduced tool is easy to use, quick to learn, and efficient. Since one of the main benefits of using a marketing asset management tool is to save time, it’s important that the tool doesn’t take up a ton of time in the learning process. It should be super easy to share assets with internal and external partners.

I looked at each software’s interface to determine how intuitive it is to work within. Marketing asset management tools should be clean, decluttered, and simple to use (especially when it comes to filtering).

Software integrations

If a tool has the best features, but it just doesn't gel with your current stack of marketing tools, it can end up making your job harder. Pre-built integrations with other tools are an ideal feature for teams, especially as they grow from medium to enterprise-level organizations. Most marketing asset management software should integrate with the Microsoft suite, team communication apps like Slack, the Google Suite, and CRM tools like HubSpot.

While marketing asset management tools aren’t primarily known for their analytics capabilities, it’s important to understand the effectiveness of your tool. Many marketing asset management (MAM) tools can help you see which asset files are being downloaded the most, which are duplicated, and more so you can optimize your team’s workflow.
